Oregon's Willamette Valley
One of our favorite places on Earth … rolling, green hills, beautiful fruit orchards, clean, crisp air and acres & acres of vineyards. Road side stands offering big juicy peaches and fresh hazelnuts dot the roads and highways, instead of strip malls and fancy tasting rooms, and down-to-earth wine lovers live and work in the region. The fine wine industry in Oregon got its start in the late 1960s when people like David Lett of Eyrie Vineyards began growing wine grapes. Years later, Robert Drouhin was the first French man to purchase land in the Willamette Valley and asked his daughter to make the wine. Since Pinot Noir thrives in a cooler climate, it is ideal for the northern part of Oregon, in the Willamette. The Willamette Valley appellation is a huge swath of country that roughly extends from just southwest of Portland, down through Salem, McMinnville and into Eugene. So why are wine drinkers still discovering Oregon wines for the first time? Well, California has 1000+ wineries.
