Our exciting Greek wine selection has grown to include this pure and delicious white made of the ancient grape variety named Moschofilero. From the Peloponnese region, Moschofilero is grown in high altitude limestone and clay vineyards in the mountains of Aigialeia and Mantineia, and is considered one of Greece's finest white varietals. The grapes are handpicked and transported in small baskets from Semeli's vineyards before going through a classic stainless steel vinification, which preserves the bright, ripe and energetic fruit flavors. Look for aromas of lemon, melon and white flowers followed by ripe yet dry flavors on the palate, nice acidity and a touch of minerality on the finish. Serve as an aperitif or with fish, vegetable dishes, oysters, pasta with seafood and white meats; it also pairs particularly well with sushi and sashimi. We brought this wine into the Bottle Shop right before leaving for our first trip to Greece where we visited the Semeli winery among other fine estates. Semeli was named for the mother of Dionysus, god of wine, and today is producing a full range of exciting wines made by a young Greek winemaker who trained in Australia before returning home to be a part of the wine revolution happening in Greece which emphasizes ancient vines made into modern wines.
Wine Spectator
Pure and peachy-tasting, with plenty of wild mustard and spice notes. Fresh and juicy on the crisp finish. Drink now.
Score: 87.
