Made by Henry's Drive in Padthaway, Australia, Pillar Box Reserve is made from the estate's best parcels of Shiraz. Named after the proprietor of the 19th century mail coach service that once ran through their property, Henry’s Drive Vignerons is the wine operation established by Kim Longbottom and her late husband Mark. It was also during the 19th century that farming and winemaking began in south eastern South Australia. The 2008 Pillar Box Reserve is made of 100% Shiraz from a low yielding 3.5 tons per acre giving the wine exceptional concentration. Aged in 85% French oak and 15% American oak, the wine is a rich and intense with blackcurrant, toasted spice and graphite mineral complexities. Serve with grilled meats, roasts, sausages and/or hearty cheeses.
Wine Spectator
Rich and expressive, a wild ride of ripe blackberry, licorice, coffee and spice flavors that gain momentum with every sip. This has power, style and grace. Better than previously reviewed. Drink now through 2020. 6,800 cases made.

Wine Advocate
The 2008 Pillar Box Reserve Shiraz spent 8 months in French and American oak. Purple-colored, it delivers an alluring nose of cedar, lavender, pepper, and blueberry. Concentrated and layered on the palate, it has more than ample succulent fruit, good balance, and enough structure to ensure 4-5 years of pleasurable drinking.

Wine Enthusiast
Deliciously fruity, this full-bodied Shiraz offers a big mouthful of flavor for the price, ranging from plums to mixed berries. The tannins are extremely supple, and the finish is long and a bit warm but nuanced, with hints of charred meat coming through. Drink now-2014.
