Pertimali - Livio Sassetti Brunello di Montalcino 2001
Almost Burgundian in style, Pertimali Brunello is seductive in its aromatics, silky in tannins, and balanced with beautiful fruit flavors. This can be at least partly attributed to the Montosoli hill on which the estate's vineyards are sited; the cru is famous for producing wines that are a perfect balance of the power and richness of southern Montalcino with the finesse of the north. The wine has violets, blackberry and cherry fruits, and spice in the nose, with a long, complex palate.
Wine Advocate
The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is a deeply colored, big, powerful effort. It shows masses of vibrant sweet dark fruit, smoke, tar and earth flavors with notable concentration and length on the palate. Still quite primary today, it offers outstanding potential, but a few years of patience are required. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018.
Score: 92.
