Penner-Ash Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir 2006
Aged for 10 months in a combination new, one year old and neutral French oak barrels, this beautiful Pinot Noir has aromas of blackberry, vanilla and herbal spice. Fine tannins coat a structured palate of dried black cherry and bittersweet chocolate, and the wine has a long and expressive finish. Only 250 cases produced.
Lynn Penner-Ash has quite an impressive resumé of past winemaking gigs before starting her own brand, including Stag's Leap Wine Cellars in Napa and Rex Hill in Oregon. She also served on the board of the International Pinot Noir Celebration from 1996-2002, and acted as President in 1998. This particular yearly event is the most important Pinot Noir tasting in the world.
Wine Spectator
Soft and ripe. Offers a generous mouthful of dark plum, black cherry, black pepper and cream flavors that linger impressively on the nicely focused finish against fine tannins. Best from 2009 through 2014.
Score: 93.
