Enrico Scavino has been at the forefront of the modernist movement in Piedmont since the 1980s, and is today one of the most respected and highly regarded winemakers in all of Italy. Scavino diverged from the traditional style of Barolo to produce soft and lush wines that are delicious within months of release as well as later in their evolution. This Barolo is made of 100% Nebbiolo, from vines planted in 1938, 1979 and 1984. The wine is aged in French oak barriques for 24 months and then kept in the cellar for 6-7 months more before being released.
'Scavino is a master of Barolo. Enrico Scavino and his two daughters, Enrica and Elisa, continue to produce outstanding Barolos year in and year out.' -- The Wine Spectator
'Scavino and his daughters are fashioning riveting wines at their cellars in Castiglione
Falletto.' -Robert Parker, Jr.

The estate's 2004 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is another awesome wine. Initially linear on entry, it explodes on the palate with a compelling array of dark fruit, smoke, tar, licorice, new leather, plums and baking spices. Although Bric del Fiasc is typically a wine that relies on power, the 2004 is notably refined and elegant, with sweet silky tannins that support the fruit from start to finish. Simply put, this is a remarkable wine from Enrico Scavino. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.

Dark in color, with gorgeous aromas of blackberry, black licorice and blueberry. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a long finish. A bit tight, but pretty and balanced. Very long and cerebral. Best after 2012.
Score: 95.
