Michel Torino Don David Reserve Malbec 2009
|
We chose this polished and flavorful Argentine Malbec during a line-up of a half dozen different producers. Brothers Salvador and David Michel founded Michel Torino winery in 1892 in the Cafayate Valley, and today all of the wines are 100% estate bottled from hand harvested fruit. Andrés Höy, Torino's production manager, practices sustainable, environmentally friendly farming by minimizing the use of fertilizers and chemicals in the vineyard. The unique Cafayate climate manifests itself in the elegant, focused profile of Michel Torino's wines. These are wines with an indelible sense of place, wines which complement food rather than overpower, wines which are true to their origin. We found good intensity, packed with dense fruit yet bright acidity. With red and black fruits mingling with roses and gentle spices, this will pair well with many foods, including red meats, poultry, empanadas, cheeses and more. It will stand up to mildly spicy foods, but will also complement more classic cuisine from French to Italian.
