This new find from Castilla y Leon is made of the Mencia grape, which is typical in that region, as well as Bierzo. Red wines made from Mencia tend to be extremely fragrant, with red fruits on the palate such as red plums, red cherries and cranberries as well as appealing herbal notes, hints of spice and subtle tannin. Believed to be related to Cabernet Franc, a good Mencia, such as this one, is elegant and well balanced, and at an unbelievably low price!
