Kaiken is the recently realized dream of the folks behind Montes, from Chile. Founders Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray were determined to find vineyards and a winery in Argentina to make great quality, affordable wines, which they have achieved at Kaiken. Winemaker Aurelio often flies over the Andes in a small aircraft to check in on his team in Argentina, because otherwise it is a very long and winding trip by car through the mountains. The winery itself is a simple structure, but the vines are being cultivated with great care and attention, and the wines are simply delicious! This Malbec is rich, round and fleshy. Look for black fruits, licorice and spice notes, and serve with BBQ meats, especially steaks, burgers and spicy sausages.
