This delicious blend from South Africa is made of 72% Syrah, 13% Cinsault, 7% Mourvèdre, 3% Grenache and 4% Carignan. The Syrah and Cinsault are coming from the Paarl Valley, and the other three grapes from dryland bush vines in the Swartland. Grapes were destalked but not crushed and fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks using Rhône yeasts. The wine is emulating Côte du Rhône reds from the south of France, hence the cute name. The wine was lightly oaked with seven months in older barrels. Look for cedar, anise, fleshy fruit and herbs de Provence in the nose with fleshy, ripe, roasted fruit, licorice and spice flavors in the mouth. Serve with grilled chicken, hamburgers, cheeses or rustic country pâté and rosemary crackers.
