This top Barolo is from the legendary Cannubi vineyard, whose fame stretches as far back as 1752. There are multiple owners in the vineyard who make small quantities of this often ethereal juice. Chiara Boschis makes less than 1000 cases per year of her Cannubi, which has a persistent nose, packed with floral and fruity notes. It is a dry, soft and harmonious wine that drinks particularly well with braised meat, roasts, and aged cheeses.
Chiara Boschis has about 6 hectares of vines under cultivation in the commune of Barolo. She graduated with a degree in economics but was determined to make wine. She gained invaluable experience while working with her brothers at the historical Borgogno wine estate. As one of two women winemakers in the Langhe, she is necessarily of unquestionable confidence, determination, patience and charm. She took over the reins at E. Pira e Figli in 1990 with a clear idea of what she wanted to accomplish: to marry the extraordinary power of Barolo with approachability, enticing elegance, and lush, intense aromas. She achieves this goal through strict vineyard management, careful selection, and impeccable vinification techniques: shortened maceration, malolactic fermentation, and aging in barriques.
Wine Advocate
The 2004 Barolo Cannubi possesses superb depth, clarity and inner perfume, with layers of fruit, sweet spices and menthol that develop in the glass as this magical wine gradually reveals its sublime personality and remarkable texture. Well-integrated oak, ripe, silky tannins and a finish that lasts forever round out this beautiful wine, which was simply stunning on both occasions I tasted it. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2022.

Wine Enthusiast
Beguiling, concentrated and suave, this classically styled Barolo opens with lavender, cherry, almond and anise, which slide in to blackberry brandy flavors on the palate. Long finish. Intense and delicious from start to finish; a real stunner. Drink now or cellar 5–7 years.

Rose petal and plum aromas, with hints of vanilla, follow through to a full body, with excellent, subtle fruit, chewy tannins and a fresh finish. Subtle yet structured. Best after 2011.
