Collosorbo Brunello di Montalcino 2001
Brunello (the little dark one) is a Tuscan dialect name for a particularly fine strain of Sangiovese grown in Montalcino, south of both Chianti and Siena. In this dryer, hotter, and more Mediterrean climate of southern Tuscany, the limesone and sand soil produce a muscular grape capable of making a rich, dark, concentrated red (heavier and more tannic than Chianti). Tongue-curling tannins and firm acidity allow these wines to age, catching the eyes of wine collectors, Popes, Presidents, Kings, and Queens.
Try at home with salami, dried pork and sausages or simply grilled Steaks, roasted meats, and cheeses.
Wine Enthusiast
A standout wine thanks to lush red apple and cinnamon, coffee, tobacco, cherry cola, spice and peach cobbler-like aromas. Tasty, long finish with firm tannins and a flavorful, fruity tail in an ageworthy wine.

Wine Advocate
Collosorbo's 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous effort, with an expressive, perfumed nose, and layers of super-ripe red fruit, licorice and mineral nuances that open on the palate with great length and freshness, framed by fine, silky tannins that round out the finish. This sexy, irresistibly appealing Brunello should drink well to age 15. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016.
Score: 91.
