Bodegas Tarima Monastrell 2009

Tasted and loved by our staff, this old vine Monastrell from Jumilla has a grapey nose with hints of licorice, chocolate and violets followed by more of the same in the mouth. Full-bodied yet smooth on the palate, this big wine certainly over-delivers for the price. Serve with grilled meats, burgers, pasta, cheese and crackers or pizza. This could also be served without food to folks who love Cabernet and/or Shiraz.
Wine Enthusiast
Rubbery and roasted, but not too much so. Otherwise one should look for medicinal berry aromas followed by flavors of baked plum, prune and black pepper. The finish is dense, a touch flat, and chocolaty; overall this is a chunky, sweet performer.

Wine Advocate
This is the first vintage of this wine; the 2009 Tarima is 100% Monastrell sourced from 25-35 year old vines and raised in stainless steel with lees stirring. Medium crimson-colored, the nose reveals fragrant blueberries and underbrush. Firm on the palate with plenty of savory fruit, it is meant for drinking over the next 3 years.
