Beaux Frères is owned by three partners : Michael G. Etzel, Robert M. Parker, Jr. and Robert Roy. Michael is the winemaker, and brother-in-law of Robert Parker. In 1990, the first crop was harvested and Michael sold the grapes to well-known Oregon winemakers Ken Wright and Dick Ponzi. Beaux Frères' first release was 1991. The goal at this estate is to produce world-class Pinot Noir from small, well-balanced yields and ripe, healthy fruit that represent the essence of their vineyards. This Upper Terrace is a ten acre vineyard planted exclusively to Dijon clones with extremely low yields of 2 tons per acre. It is usually a deeper and richer wine than the Beaux Frères Vineyard, with complex floral and forest floor components that add to the sultry, natural ripeness of the fruit.
Wine Spectator
Elegant and refined, with a plush underpinning to the luscious raspberry, blackberry and black plum fruit, shaded with subtle hints of peppermint and a whiff of char as the finish sails on smoothly. Drink now through 2016.
Score: 94.
