Producer St. Innocent

This small production Oregon producer is making incredible wines in the Willamette Valley. Cropped at under 2 tons per acre, the Villages Cuvée Pinot Noir comes from Vitae Springs located in the south Salem Hills and planted on a steep southeast hill on thin volcanic soil. It is a blend of Pommard, 115, and 777 clones. The grapes were fermented in a stainless fermenter after two days of cold maceration, and then the wine aged for 12 months in 20% new French oak barrels and was bottled by gravity without fining and filtration. Look for a lovely nose of bright red fruit and sweet spices. Cherry and red berry flavors are layered with pie spices and a hints of flowers. Serve with wild salmon with quinoa with dried red fruits and nuts. Bonus info: 2012 is an excellent vintage for Oregon Pinot Noir!

Wine Spectator "Smooth and velvety, with currant, blackberry, tar and hints of meat in a dark, brooding flavor profile. Has intensity without obvious weight. Drink now through 2019." Score: 90.
