Martin and Anna Arndorfer are one of Austria's youngest, most enthusiastic winemaking couples. Martin comes from a long line of winemakers, growing up in the vineyards and cellar of his parents' estate. Anna Steininger is the daughter of one of the most respected winemakers in Austria, Karl Steininger. They are both dedicated to expressing the purest forms of the Gruner Veltliner and Riesling grapes. We tasted their full range of wines in northern Italy with Martin and fell in love with these classy wines. Strasser Weinerge means the 'vineyards in Strass', and the fruit for this wine is selected from three of Martin's vineyards in the village. The wine is a showcase for the typical characteristics of the variety and vineyard soils around the village... in Martin's words, it is a wine that 'makes you happy'! Gruner is typically a variety that does not see any wood in it's aging, but here Martin adds just a 'whisper', with a small percentage he ages in old barrels to soften the vibrant acidity of the Gruner grape. Serve at home with all kinds of green salads, green veggies, seafood or goat's milk cheeses. Gruner is a chef's favorite for pairing with difficult vegetables such as asparagus, artichokes, spring peas and brussel sprouts.
