This clever producer is sourcing ripe, delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from around the state, especially the Napa Valley, and blending it with small amounts of Merlot, Syrah, and Petite Syrah. We found round and juicy blueberry and black fruit flavors with French vanilla and a hint of rosemary on the finish. It is the perfect BBQ Cab at a reasonable price, and a big step up from some of the big name California brands at the same price.
Wine Advocate
The inexpensive 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon California is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Syrah, Merlot, and Petite Sirah. Aged 20 months in French and American oak, it exhibits a dark ruby hue along with a big, sweet bouquet of creme de cassis, charcoal, toast, and subtle herbs. Fleshy and medium-bodied with silky tannins and excellent purity as well as depth, this bargain-priced Cabernet begs for consumption over the next 1-2 years.
Score: 87.
