Antinori Brunello Di Montalcino Pian Delle Vigne 2001
Antinori is one of the oldest winemaking families in the world, with 26 generations of Antinori members making wine. The family has resided in Florence, Tuscany, since the early 13th century, and in the 16th century banker and merchant Alessandro Antinori was the first Antinori to make wine from his estates, wines which became famous in Italy and abroad, from Lyons to Flanders, from Spain to Algiers... this great wine is made from the Pian delle Vigne estate, which the family purchased in 1995.
Wine Enthusiast
Blockbuster Brunello that is welcoming and inviting no matter how you cut it. The aromatic portfolio is luscious and intense with sweet bread, cinnamon, chewy cherry, raspberry roll-up, dried oregano, cassis and blueberry. Concentrated and creamy, this brand is easy to find at retail.

Wine Advocate
Antinori’s 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne presents a dark expression of Sangiovese. This deeply-colored Brunello is made in a round, supple style with dark cherries, violets, tobacco and earthiness. It offers notable concentration in a fairly international style, with building but finessed tannins on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.
Score: 92.

Wine Spectator
Aromas of exotic fruit with cherry, coffee and toasted oak. Full-bodied and verging on jammy, but rich, opulent and fruity. Round tannins. Slightly one-dimensional. Best after 2009. 15,000 cases made.
Score: 90.
