Château Puygueraud Cotes de Francs 2005
Chateau Puygueraud has been produced mainly from Merlot with a proportion of Cabernet and Malbec which has given the wine a rich, sturdy and slightly peppery quality. This 2005 is an outstanding example, and will be amazing with grilled fare, especially big red meat dishes and grilled vegetables. In recent years however, most of the Cabernet Sauvignon has been re-planted to Cabernet Franc at the estate; Cabernet Franc is an earlier ripening varietal than Cabernet Sauvignon, and the owners feel that moving forward, this will better suit the terroir of the region.
Wine Spectator
Shows lovely black currant, floral and black licorice notes. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a tight bead of fruit and mineral throughout. Has a long finish. Best after 2009. 10,830 cases made.
Score: 92.

Wine Advocate
The 2005 Puygueraud is a beautifully textured, dense purple-colored effort. The bouquet offers up aromas of tobacco leaf, black currants, cherries, charcoal, and a hint of background wood. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.
