BN#212236 |
Made from high elevation vines, Alonso del Yerro 'Maria' represents a strict selection of the winery’s finest barrels. French winemaking guru, Stephane Derenoncourt, oversees the viticulture and winemaking at this estate, and 'Maria' has been said to "have the lushness and silky texture of a great Pomerol married to a Spanish personality" by the Wine Advocate.
Wine Advocate
The 2005 Alonso del Yerro “Maria” was aged for 18 months sur-lie with batonnage. It too has a brooding perfume but is a bit more layered, forward, and immediately pleasurable. There is plenty of ripe tannin and a 60+ second finish. Give it 5-7 years of cellaring and drink it through 2025. Vinedos Alonso del Yerro was purchased in 2002 and Stephane Derenoncourt was hired on as consultant. Malolactic fermentation was in new French oak followed by aging sur-lie for 12 months with batonnage.
