Wine Advocate
The 2004 La Nieta (the first vintage of this wine) is sourced from Finca La Nieta, a 5.3 acre parcel with densely planted, low yielding Tempranillo vines. The wine was barrel fermented and aged in 100% new French oak for 18 months before being bottled unfiltered. The product of a great vintage (2004 may be on a par with 2001 in Rioja), this saturated purple wine boasts a flamboyant nose of pain grille, spice box, graphite, wild blueberry, blackberry, and licorice. It cuts a wide swath on the palate with layer upon layer of spicy black fruits, thick concentrated flavors, and great integration of oak, tannin, and acidity. The pure finish lasts for over a minute. Cellar this youthful effort for 6-8 years and drink it through 2035. Sadly, there are only 600 bottles for the American market.
Score: 98.
