Mollydooker The Scooter Merlot 2006
Well, firstly we must explain where the name came from. The very first day Sarah met Sparky, he was scootering around the University Campus. Sparky used to race scooters (yes, we mean the one you had as a kid) back in his home town and was known as 'The Man with the Scooter', as it was very rare in those days. They were smitten from the start!
Secondly, the winemakers asked themselves: "Why make a Merlot? Well fashions come and go, but classic wine styles endure for ever. It's a wine we personally enjoy. Our Merlot grapes come from Gemtree's vineyard in McLaren Vale, an area which has lovely fruit intensity, and Scott & Cheryl Longbottom’s vineyard in Padthaway which is renowned for highlighting the beauty and elegance of the variety. The combination is a delightful, delicious, charming wine to relax with at the end of a busy day."

"The dark ruby-colored 2006 Merlot “The Scooter” exhibits a fragrant bouquet of smoke, toast, cassis, plum, and blackberry. Velvety-textured (a trademark of the Marquis team) with ripe, sweet fruit, this full-bodied Merlot is layered and seamless with no hard edges. It is what Merlot used to be all about. Drink it now and over the next 4 years. Mollydooker (the Australian equivalent of “Southpaw”– both Sparky and Sarah Marquis are left-handed) is the label of the renowned winemaking team of Sparky and Sarah Marquis. This is their second vintage following the schism with The Grateful Palate and the end of their involvement in the hugely successful Marquis Philips project. Total case production is 72,000, down from the 120,000 cases produced under the Marquis Philips label. They have also set up their own importing company in the United States. Mollydooker has been divided into four tiers beginning with “The Lefty Series”. These five wines are line-priced at $20. Next up the ladder is “The Party Series” priced at $50 a bottle, followed by two wines comprising “The Love Series” priced at $80. At the top of the pyramid is one wine, “The Velvet Glove” Shiraz priced at $175."

Firm in texture, with a solid core of dark berry and currant flavors, shaded with smoky, slightly tarry notes that mingle through the cocoa-scented finish. Drink now through 2010.
