"If I had only one Brunello to drink, it would be Pertimali. This producer has been making spectacular wines since 1982." - Robert Parker
Pertimali di Livio Sassetti is considered among the greatest of all Brunello di Montalcino wines. Unusual for the zone, a Pertimali Brunello is almost Burgundian in style - in youth the wines can be somewhat unforthcoming, but as they mature they unfold beautifully. This can be at least partly attributed to the Montosoli hill on which the estate's vineyards are sited; the cru is famous for producing wines that are a perfect balance of the power and richness of southern Montalcino with the finesse of the north. The wine is characterized by seductive fragrance of violets, blackberry and cherry fruits, and spice, with a lengthy, fascinating palate. A staple in any Italian wine lover's collection vintage-in and vintage-out.

Wine Advocate
Pertimali’s 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is vibrant and fresh, with compelling suggestions of violets, dark cherries, spices and minerals that emerge from the glass. It is a wine that possesses both massive amounts of fruit as well as imposing supporting structure. This refined, elegant, deeply-nuanced wine will need a few years to come together and I imagine it will still offer much pleasure at age 20. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2021.
Score: 94.
