Mitolo Reiver Shiraz 2005
In a short period of time Mitolo has become recognized as one of the finest producers in McLaren Vale. With brilliant young winemaker Ben Glaetzer, Frank and Simone produce individual, hand-crafted wines built on passion and an uncompromising commitment to quality. Mitolo's philosophy has always been to focus on the vineyard, ensuring that the grapes are picked on flavor ripeness and that the right balance of aromas and structure are achieved. The 2005 vintage has been touted as the best since the historic 1998, and winemakers all over Australia have called it the best vintage they have ever made. Parker raves : "For a winery only established in 1999 and dedicated to hand crafted artisinal wines, Mitolo has consistently been a revolution in my tastings."
Wine Advocate
The 2005 Shiraz Reiver, made from 60-year-old Shiraz vines in the Greenock area of the Barossa, was aged 18 months in lightly toasted French oak. Its inky/blue/purple hue is followed by a lovely perfume of flowers, blackberries, espresso, and licorice. Aged completely in 300 liter hogsheads, it offers stunning richness and length, and should drink well for 10-12 years.

Wine Enthusiast
This brooding beast starts with scents of dark chocolate and coffee, then adds plenty of fruit in the form of blueberries and blackberries on the rich, chewy palate. Despite the wine’s considerable heft and density of fruit, there’s enough spicy complexity and a surprising degree of elegance to the long, tongue-tingling finish. Drink now–2015.
